Oakwood Estates is a platted development in rural Wakarusa Township, Douglas County, Kansas 66047, and is about one mile south of the City of Lawrence, off the west side of U.S. Highway 59.

There are two street entrances to Oakwood, one from U.S. Highway 59 onto N 1135 Road, and the other from N 1100 Road onto E 1284 Road. The brick, lighted "Oakwood" sign shown below is at the entrance from Hwy. 59:

Oakwood was platted in January 1988 (no. 6566), and includes 29 lots (3.00 acres minimum) plus an 8.99 acre HOA-owned private open space that has a small lake and picnic shelter.

The original developers intended the neighborhood to have a park-like appearance. As such, there are few fences.

The Oakwood Estates Homeowners Association, Inc., the "HOA", is a not-for-profit organization chartered in Kansas. All lot owners are automatically members of the HOA.
