Oakwood Estates is a platted development in rural Wakarusa Township, Douglas County, Kansas 66047, and is about one mile south of the City of Lawrence, just-off the west side of U.S. Highway 59.

There are two street entrances to Oakwood, one from U.S. Highway 59 onto N 1135 Road, and the other from N 1100 Road onto E 1284 Road. The brick, lighted "Oakwood" sign shown below is at the entrance from Hwy. 59:

Oakwood was platted in January 1988 (no. 6566), and includes 29 lots (3.00 acres minimum) plus an 8.99 acre HOA-owned private open space that has a pond and picnic shelter.

The original developers intended the neighborhood to have a park-like appearance. As such, there are few fences.

The Oakwood Estates Homeowners Association, Inc., the "HOA", is a not-for-profit organization chartered in Kansas. All lot owners are automatically members of the HOA.
